A Game & A Warning?

Image
Hide and Seek with Noah was definitely not what I expected it to be. I knew it was a "horror" game, but it went a horror route that I didn't expect. In this game, you have to help Noah's mom, best friend, and teacher find where the mischievous little bunny is hiding in various scenarios. However, the game takes a dark turn when it turns into an analog horror, which a choice; hide or seek. I won't spoil anything for you, but let's just say if you choose to seek, it takes you down a dark path full of abuse, murder, and kidnapping. It uses FMV (Full Motion Video), which absolutely adds to the raw fear that this simple little game was able to inflict on myself. The feeling of dread and unease that I felt during this felt so strong, as if I was witnessing something I shouldn't be. It had moments where I couldn't help but hold my breath. It takes a lot to make me feel uneasy, but this game was able to accomplish that. Don't let the colors fool you,...

AIM FOR THE KNEECAPS

Image
Hi all! I know it has been a while since I last posted. I have had a lot of life events happen and have had to work through with some things. Now that I feel I am in a better place, I want to get into posting more regularly again.  To start off again, I wanted to just do a quick little review of New York Rat Simulator. When I got this game, I was not expecting what I got... at all. In this "game" you run around a block or two of New York City, as a giant rat. I love rats, so I figured I'd try it.  There is no point to this game, other than to collect pizza to grow your rat. Since it's so basic, I wanted to see if I could interact with other things in the surrounding area. Oh boy could I! I was streaming this game to my friends on Discord. I was showing them that I could run into cars and all. I showed them how I could jump at the people walking around and knock them over. That's when we figured out, I could charge at them.  My friends went silent. I went silent....

My Shortest Review Ever??

Image
Okay, this game was not what I expected it to be. I honestly had no idea what I was supposed to do, so I just ran around the map like an idiot until something happened. And something did happen. I was running around, just enjoying the island sun, doing the macarena with other island natives, chasing seagulls, and exploring. I suddenly found myself in a predicament. I was in a volcano... Well, the volcano began to erupt, and my silly self simply sat for the ride, until I got to the top at least. Then I just ran. I ran and ran until I reached the boats. My fellow tribe members ran and screamed and ran and screamed some more. Some couldn't escape the lava flames, while others made it to the boats and we took off. Some of our tribe tried to swim to our boats, but.... it was horrible... the sharks finished them off!  The PTSD for my islander family is painful... and if you too want to suffer from the same PTSD, you too can play Pineapple On Pizza for the low, low price of FREE!

The Town with the Cutest Mayor - Stinkytown

Image
O.M.G! This game has quickly become one of my favorite one shot games. You play as the mayor of Stinkytown, an absolutely adorable possum, simply called Mayor. In this game, Mayor has a really big problem. His whole world has gone grey! It has grown gross and smelly after our poor Mayor had a downward spiral, and it's our job to help clean it up.     To clean each location, you must complete a mini game related to that room. So for example, when cleaning the bedroom, you have to organize the stuffed animals in order to bring the color back to it. It's a super short game, but extremely enjoyable.     The first time I played this game, I thought it was just about a little possum mayor cleaning up his town, but the more I thought about it after the game, I realized that the dev may have had a deeper meaning to it.      Now this may just be me looking into it too much, but I think it's a valid thought for what may be deeper to th...

12 Hour Museum

Image
12 Hour Museum came out when finding anomaly games were extra popular. Normally, I don't care for "find the anomaly" games, but this one caught my interest, as I love museums. You play as an unnamed male, who was knocked out in an accident. He wakes up in this museum and everything seems normal, until nightfall.      The goal is to survive the night by finding the anomaly each hour. You must find the anomaly before time runs out, and find 12 in a row or else you restart the count. There are a total of 45 different anomalies in the game, some being harder to find than others. My favorite ones to find were the ones that changed the paintings.      The game consists of 7 different endings, which are affected by the way you play. Once you find all endings and all 45 anomalies, an extra mode is unlocked and adds 54 additional anomalies. The first playthrough takes about 30 minutes on average, but once you get extras and work on clearin...

My Worst Nightmare: Ocean Desolation

Image
This game is my worst nightmare in 3D graphics. If you don't know, I have Thalassophobia. Now don't get Thalassophobia and Aquaphobia mixed up. Aquaphobia is the fear of water itself. Thalassophobia is the intense fear of deep bodies of water like lakes, the ocean, and rivers.     In this game, you fall off your ship in a storm. You wake up, floating in the ocean on a wooden raft. In the distance you see a bell buoy. Following the lights you end up back at your raft with a box on it. On top of the box is a letter telling you what needs done. In order to complete the tasks, you need to swim from place to place in the ocean, all while disturbing sounds and invisible creatures stalk your every move.     What scared me about this game is the unknown. You're jumping into the ocean without being able to see anything around you and you have no idea what may be lurking under the depths. I could handle the monsters and creatures that torment the main char...

Stray Cats in Cozy Town + Purrr

Image
Stray Cats in a Cozy Town is a super cute hidden item game where your goal is to find all the kitties hidden around town. You can also search for water buckets to make sure the cats all stay hydrated. This game took me about an hours to complete (there's ALOT of cats).      This game is free to play on STEAM, but does have a paid DLC called Night Lights, where all the proceeds go to helping stray cats. The DLC is about $2.00, so for skipping Starbucks for even just 1 day, you can help a stray kitty AND get a absolutely adorable game! Overall, this game may not have much to it, with being a find it game, but it is a treasured addition to the hidden cats game genre! There are so many hidden cat games out there that it has become its own full genre now. Most are free to play, with paid DLCs or additional content. It's a genre that I hadn't been 100% sold on at the start, but the more I've been playing them, the more they have grown on me, especially when ...

Sketchy Individuals

Image
https://shawcat.itch.io/sketchy-individuals My husband and I came across this game when we saw it pop up in a YouTube video. We watched through the first level before we both realized we wanted to play it. It strongly reminded me of the game Fingered, which I've reviewed in an earlier post. In this game, you play as a police sketch artist, tasked with drawing the criminals described by their victims. Don't worry, there's no actual drawing involved haha. You go through each description, picking the option that best fits with what the victim says, then looking at the line up to best match your drawing. There are 10 levels, each progressively getting harder and harder. What bothered me the most was that it didn't tell you if you got the person right or wrong at the end of each level. At the end of the game, you find out how many you got wrong and how many you got right. The whole playthrough took me about 15 - 20 minutes in total, so relatively short, but lots of fun! Th...

First Look: Broken Shell Demo

Image
Broken Shell is a game with a to-be-determined release date. You play as Mr. Hermit Crab, following the story of him and his wife, Mrs. Hermit Crab. The story begins with the couple meeting in a little coral field, when you accidentally crack your beloved wife's shell. She's very upset, but you are able to make her feel better by giving her a flower. From there you solve puzzles to progress the story, helping other adorable characters along the way. One of my favorite characters was Blob fish! The art style is what originally drew me in. I'm a sucker for cutesy, colorful artwork like the devs used for this game. I searched for hermit crab games, because my husband and I adopted 3 precious hermit crabs yesterday. Wyn, Riv'n, and Vesper and we are absolutely in love with them! Since they're my gaming buddies, I wanted to play a game that was about hermit crabs. Unfortunately, there's not very many hermit crab games, but with Broken Shell coming out, I can...

Little Kitty, Big City

Image
Hey guys! I'm sorry for such a long hiatus, but what better way to welcome the new year than with a new review! Today I'll be looking at Little Kitty, Big City, a game that I painfully underestimated. Sorry little kitty, I shouldn't have doubted you. I saw a bunch of raving reviews for this game, but in screenshots and gameplay I saw, it didn't seem that great. However, I eventually gave in and tried it. I'm so glad I did! You play as this sweet kitty and go on a massive adventure! Your story starts at home, like most stories do, sunbathing in your favorite spot. You doze off and, unfortunately, roll off the rooftop. Thankfully, you're a cat! You land on your feet, but you're all the way down on the street. Looking up at the massive building, you know you have to get back up. You meet a crow, who is like a guide for you, as well as a variety of other character like a family of ducks, multiple other cats, and even a raccoon scientist! You have to collect fi...

31 Days of Spooks: Day 19 & 20

Image
Hi everyone, you don’t know who I am, but I am Vaytorra Kierst’s fiancé, and she’s been struggling keeping up with the 31 days of spooks, so I’m going to try and help out. I chose to play The WereCleaner; it’s a short game where you’re a janitor who works at an office building with your trusty water sprayer and vacuum to clean up messes. Rent is due soon, so you’re working extra. But what’s this? You have to work mandatory unpaid overtime at night. Doesn’t seem too bad, but did I mention you’re a werewolf? While running around cleaning, you have to now avoid the other workers at night. If caught, you go into a bloodthirsty rampage and kill them. You now can pick up or eat the body. By eating it, you make a mess and have to clean it up. You do have a timer for each level, so don’t slack too much. Also, Daryl, the security guard, knows something is up if it’s an animal or a beast in the office. He doesn’t know it’s you, but he’s determined to find out. The game consists of seven levels, ...

31 Days of Spooks: Days 9-18

Image
Hey guys, I'm so sorry I missed so many days... Things have been crazy with family birthdays, bridal shower, a new job, and more. Hopefully I'll be able to catch up after this post!  9th - Cooking Mama https://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/470028 Cooking Mama is known world wide and is an amazing game based around cooking. Well, this version is a little different. This Cooking Mama game has a dark twist where you're preparing a turkey and gravey. This game was created by PETA, so that should say something about the content. Personally, I liked this game. I was first introduced to it when I saw Jacksepticeye play it. Some parts of it were more difficult, especially with the timer, but overall, it's a nice little homage to the Cooking Mama franchise. 10th - Little Bus Ride of Horror https://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/443368 So my dumb brain thought that this was a game. I was wrong. Turns out it is actually a little comic book. I already had it written into the plan ...

31 Days of Spooks: Day 8 - Nocturnal Visit

Image
https://moi0210.itch.io/nocturnal-visit Hey all! Thanks for joining me for day 8 of 31 Days of Spooks! Today we're going over the free to play game, available on itch.io, Nocturnal Visit. This game is super short, but super fun and creepy. Using PS1 style graphics, this game is already one I recommend if you're looking for a quick time killer that is fun and spooky! In Nocturnal Visit, you play as an adventure blogger, who is looking for the next big blog post. You come across an article about an abandoned house that was previously inhabited by multiple serial killers over the years. It's settled, that's where you're going to go. You head out to the house with your flashlight, camera, and adventurous spirit in tow. Unable to enter the front door, you have to find another way in, and once you do so, strange things start to happen. You hear strange noises as you explore the home and creep around every corner, unsure of what the next room may hold. I can't g...

31 Days of Spooks: Days 5, 6, & 7

Image
I'm sorry for the multiple days combined. Like I said before, this month is full of lots of chaos and changes, but I will hit 31 days, they may just not be separate. Thanks for understanding! Alright, so I was excited to play this game. It looked really spooky and kinda reminded me of analog horror. However, my hopes and dreams for what this game would be were dashed when they brought in the blob.....Well, this blob was apparently voiced by Ash-Plays, and oh my gosh, it ended up being awful. It went from a game that spooked me a little bit, to a game that I couldn't wait to end. There is an epilepsy warning given, and rightfully so. I ended up walk inga way from this game with a pounding headache. I'll like the game below, but take my advice... skip this one! https://linsonlime.itch.io/antipathy That Night in the Rain is a very short horror point and click, with absolutely adorable graphics. You play as a little girl who is supposed to wait in her parent's car while th...

31 Days of Spooks: Day 4 - Please Answer Carefully

Image
Hey guys! Welcome to day 4 of our 31 Days of Spooks! Today's game is a short horror survey game called Please Answer Carefully. It was a short, simple, and yet creepy game made in 24 hours. The front screen says that it takes 5 to 10 minutes to complete, but it's closer to 5 minutes or less. I think my playthrough took about 4 minutes, but I also read pretty fast.  The game does come with a content warning about being themed around a stalker. Rather than jump scares, this game uses audio to unsettle the players. Personally, I think that audio scares are creepier than jump scares. There's just something about the way that the audio hits. It's unsettling, and unnerving to say the least. Speaking of spooks, this game also uses forced typing. If you don't know, forced typing is when the game allows you to type, but the text it wants is already programmed into it. For example, this game asked me to tell them I miss them, I tried to type no, but it changed the text to w...

31 Days of Spooks: Day 2 & 3 - Torchure & Come to Jesus

Image
Sorry for missing yesterday's post, I had a severe migraine and was unable to complete the post. However, that means you get two today! The first one is a game titled Torchure. Enjoy! Torchure Torchure is a first person dungeon game on itch.io, made for the Wowie Jam 3.0 in 2021. In this game your goal is to find a crystal skull. Easy, right? NOPE! This game was so frustrating! I enjoyed it, but it was frustrating. There were no instructions on how to play the game, which I thought was odd, but it's straightforward enough that you don't really have to worry much about it. The game is very dark, and not in the themes. This game is literally almost pitch black, with the exception of the lantern your character carries. However, the game slowly gets more lit up, but only when your character dies... and it's very easy to die. Each time your character dies, the spot where they died is marked with a skeleton, but also the lantern they had been carrying. This leads to more and...

31 Days of Spooks - Day 1: Old Girl

Image
https://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/555580 Hey guys! Sorry for the long hiatus. Things have been crazy with wedding planning and moving and everything. However, I figured out a great way to give you guys content and game while dealing with the changes of life! Welcome to day 1 of spooks, a month long event where I review a different horror game every day for you guys. It could be mobile, steam, epic, browser, etc. These reviews will still be relatively short, and if I can provide a link to them I will. Today's game is titled Old Girl. I'm not quite sure why the game is called Old Girl, but nevertheless, it made for a nice time killer. Available on Newgrounds, this point-and-click game follows an unnamed protagonist who is in search for their girlfriend Jane. You arrive at a creepy bus stop and have to walk to the nearby town that your girlfriend was last seen in. You run into some pretty creepy characters (who have amazing voice acting that's kinda creepy) who may or may...

Times Gamers Passed Unexpectedly

Image
So in my last post, I talked about horrible crimes associated with video games. Well, I've decided to explore the other dark side of that; unexpected deaths. This post will mostly be focusing on untimely deaths of beloved gamers, due to video games. I will only be covering a small handful of these cases, but you can easily find other cases online. Again, a trigger warning is in place for this post, as it still contains content that some readers may find distressing. Also, if you read any, read Calvin Riley's case. You may just be able to help bring an unknown killer to justice. Hsieh     Hsieh, his surname, was a 32 year old gamer from Taiwan. He lived in the second largest city, Kaohsiung. He spent much of his time at internet cafes, and his family stated that he often would disappear for 2-3 days to spend time at these cafes, as he was unemployed and felt this was the only place he could go. Unfortunately, in 2015, a staff member at the café found Hsieh motionl...

Father's Day Review - Dad Joke Emoji Puzzle

*Posting late because my phone decided to not work and I just realized it 🤦🏻‍♀️      In honor of Father's Day, I thought this would be the perfect review! Dad Joke Emoji Puzzle is a super simple game, where you fill in the blanks with emojis to solve the dad joke. Living in a home where both my dad and younger brother breathe dad jokes constantly, this game is fairly simple, and makes me feel right at home. It's not a super in depth game, but it's perfect for a little time killer if you're waiting at the doctor's or just want to unwind before bed. As much as I roll my eyes at my family's dad jokes, I really enjoy this game and recommend it for anyone who loves dad jokes! I know it was a short review, but I couldn't pass up the perfect Father's Day post 😊 Happy Gaming!
