Roly Poly: Mobile Isopod Care
Roly Poly was a great concept of a game, in my opinion. However, it got very frustrating. In this game, you have virtual pet Isopods. What is an Isopod? Well, Wikipedia defines it as "an order of crustaceans. Members of this group are called Isopods and include both terrestrial and aquatic species such as woodlice," while the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) define them as, " an order of invertebrates (animals without backbones) that belong to the greater crustacean group of animals, which includes crabs and shrimp.".
So now that you know what an Isopod is, let's get to the game. As I said, in this game you get to raise virtual Isopods. You care for them much like any virtual pet, only if you don't care for them in time, they die. This, while lifelike, is very frustrating, since you don't get your in-game money back to get more isopods. In reality, Isopods are hardy creatures that can handle a lot. This game says they require daily feeding and watering within the certain time frame, or they die.
Unfortunately, this frustrated me to the point when I learned my in-game Isopods had died, that I stopped playing. There wasn't much to do in the game, besides feeding and watering them. You can poke them, and they'll curl up, but there's really not much to do besides that.
There are several colors in the game to choose from, but to start with you can only choose red, blue, white, or black. You can purchase other colors within game currency or use your actual money for specialty ones. Personally, I got a white one and a red one, and named them after two of my own Isopods.
I was raising Dairy Cow Isopods and Spanish Orange Isopods, but as of posting this review, I only have Dairy Cows. I named my in-game Isopods after Grandpa, my very first Dairy Cow Isopod (my dad named him Grandpa after seeing how big he was) and my Spanish Orange Isopod, Tango. I love these two little guys, as they were two of my first Isopods.
In general, I honestly wouldn't suggest this game, unless you're really good with time management and knowing when specifics need done. Unlike real Isopods, the in-game ones are extremely, extremely needy. This is not the game for you if you get easily frustrated, bored, or upset with time management.
Happy Gaming!
