Cube Escape Collection

I was randomly browsing the app store when I decided to look up the Rusty Lake games. Unbeknownst to me, the makers of Rusty Lake had also made a few other games that are considered to be part of the Cube Escape Collection. I was pleasantly surprised, as I had heard of the Rusty Lake games before, but never played any of them.
This review took me so long, because I wanted to review the collection as a whole, since that's how I got it on the app store, hence why the sections are just quick snippets of review. The Cube Escape Collection is 100% free and fun for anyone who loves creepy escape games with beautiful art! You begin with Seasons and then follow the story cube by cube from there! It's absolutely incredible both in style and gameplay.
This review is based on my experience with the sections, so some other players may find certain more difficult or easier than I did.

Seasons

Seasons is the first part of the Cube Escape collection. Being the first one, I thought it would be a bit on the shorter side and not super complicated, but I was wrong. This part has everything from mixing liquids to get the right one, time hops, and little details you need to pay attention to in order to complete it. For example, towards the very end you have to break a window so a bird can get in, as it is carrying an item you need to complete the section. I broke the window, but nothing happened. I tried for a while longer to figure out what was going on but came to the conclusion that the game had glitched and I just had to move on to the next section. After I finished all the other sections, I came back to give it one last try. I'm glad I did because I realized that I needed to have the radio on, to draw the bird to the window. Quite frankly, I felt kinda dumb for that one.
This was a more difficult one compared to some of the others, but it was still fun, and I loved the concept for the plot. It defiantly had several unique puzzles and concepts and was able to keep my full attention to the very end.

Lake

This section was definitely one of my favorites. It was one that was a bit easier compared to the others, so it was quicker to get through. I really enjoyed the fishing aspect of this one, and how it was a huge part in the puzzle. Other than the fishing aspect, there wasn't a ton to this section, but it was created in such a way that made it interesting.

Arles

I loved this one. It was a heavy Van Gogh theme, and Van Gogh is by far one of my favorite artists. I really enjoyed how they took his paintings and turned a couple of them into puzzles. It was a very challenging section, but it wasn't challenging to the point of frustration. I highly recommend checking this one out.

Harvey's Box

This one was... interesting. The whole section takes place in a cardboard box. It definitely had more difficult and challenging puzzles. I had to use more hints on this one haha. My favorite puzzle was the bird, wine, and fish man puzzle. It was enjoyable, even with the harder challenge, but I was very confused how to end the section, so I had to look up some help for that.

Case 23

This section was my second favorite out of all of them, tied with Birthday. It consisted of 4 parts and was heavy on the crime aesthetic. It was definitely challenging, and I hated the stupid sliding puzzle, but it was a lot of fun! I loved how it felt like I was really solving a crime case. As a heads up though, the final part to close out the section is timed. I wasn't expecting it, so it caught me off guard and I had to try a couple times to complete it, but once I figured it out, it was a bit easier to complete.

The Mill

The Mill was probably the least interesting in my opinion. It was difficult to the point of frustration, I didn't like the plot line for it, and overall, I didn't find it interesting. Due to this, I don't remember much from this section, as I found it rather forgettable. I know some people may enjoy the story in this one, but I just couldn't get into it like some of the others.

Birthday

Birthday was tied for my second favorite, along with Case 23. By far this was the darkest episode. I can't go into too much detail, as that could spoil it, but if you like games that involve murder, mystery, and a weird creature, you NEED to play this one. In my opinion, this game could simply be a standalone one. Out of all the ones you may consider playing, this needs to be on the list. It's challenging, but entertaining. It has good puzzles, is a shorter episode, and has a wonderful background story and character development line.

Theater

This section was my absolute favorite! It had a very simple plot; watch 6 performances at the theater. This section had a few challenging things, but overall, it wasn't too intense on the difficulty. There were several interesting concepts used in this section, which I really enjoyed. It was different from others, but in a good way. It kept my interest as the different shows weren't drawn out super long, so it kept my mind more focused and interested in the story line. My favorite was the one with Mr. Crow.

Cave

This section was the longest and I didn't really care for it. It was so long that I honestly thought it could have been 2 episodes. I don't really understand why it's called The Cave. Only a small portion of this episode takes place in anything remotely like a cave. The rest takes place in a submarine underwater. Like I said, it was definitely a super long episode. Really, the only puzzle I liked was towards the beginning, in the cave. There's a book that you have to fill with pictures and each page is a different puzzle.  Other than that, I didn't like this section at all.

End

Overall, I highly recommend checking out the Cube Escape Collection. You can get the episodes individually, but I liked how you could get them all together in one collection. The collection is free, but you can pay a small fee to get rid of ads and get unlimited hints. I personally did pay for this, and it really helped me stay more intrigued with the games. Overall, this was an amazing experience to play all the games in proper chronological order, and I highly recommend this to anyone who likes puzzle games, mysteries, point & click games, and just graphically beautiful games. Happy gaming!
