Ballz - The Birth of a Gamer

Oh my lanta, I'm sorry it has been too long! Life got hectic with the upcoming holidays and everything. I hope you all had a great Christmas and a happy New Year! To start off this new year, I thought I'd go back to the birth of my love of gaming!

Ballz played a huge part in my childhood, and the love of gaming. Most every Saturday morning, my father and I would go into the basement, fire up the Nintendo, and play Ballz. It's something I had always looked forward to, and now as an adult, it saddens me that we no longer do it, due to busy schedules and other things.
If you don't know, Ballz was a 3D fighting game, made for platforms like Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis. It was released in 1994 by Accolade and Media Rings. The game has three levels of difficulty and a total of 21 matches. There were nine characters to choose from, and five bosses to defeat.
I think what stuck with me most about this game, was the graphic art style (the music is pretty great too). Each character is made up of different colors and sizes of balls. They each even have their own names, personalities, and powers. My favorite character to play was always either Kronk, who was an adorable little caveman, who would knock is opponents down into one little ball and hit them like a baseball with his club; or Bruiser, who was a bodybuilder. There was also another character that I thought was cool, but I could never play it. Zombie only appeared in the director's cut version of the game.
My father and I usually ended up playing the same character and battling each other (cause baby girl had to do exactly what her dad did) and I thought the design with that was cool. You could have two people play as the same character, but the character will be a different color for each person. Maybe it was my little child brain that thought it was so cool, but I always wanted to be a certain color.
Overall, it's just your basic fighter game, with people made from balls. It  is a crazy, colorful, fun filled game, that can keep you occupied for hours, if you like fighting games. It has cute characters that aren't afraid to kick butt! To this day, I still enjoy this game, and if you ever have the chance to play it, I beg of you, DO IT!
